Final Verb Check Rules

 

Directions:

 

Circle all “is  are was were’s “– Box other verbs

 

1.

No “is  are was were” by themselves or as part of another verb.

 

2.

All verbs stand alone and are either all present tense or all past tense (can’t mix the two.)  Also no helper verbs.

 

3.

No verb is used more than once.

 

4.

All verbs are in active voice.  (Sentence starts with the object or person doing the action.)

 

5.

No delayed action verbs or delayed action lists in module.  (Be careful of list on page #3 of this packet and verbs like appear, become, do have, keep, make, take, etc.)

 

6.

Underline verbs only on final draft.

 

7.

Check that you have no “it’s” as subjects or grammatical subjects (g.s.) on your final draft.  Also no “there is” or “there are”.
