THIRD ESSAY (100 P0INTS ROUGH DRAFT, 1000 POINTS FINAL DRAFT)

You can write about any topic you wish, but the method of writing

about it must be COMPARISON/CONTRAST, and the essay must be primarily

discourse.

The key to this assignment is not what  you're comparing, but

rather why you're comparing.  You can compare and contrast any two

people, places, things, or ideas, but you should have some reason for

doing so, some purpose for choosing these particular people, places,

etc. and not some others.

Don't just compare for the sake of comparing.  Take sides!  Don't

just write a neutral checklist, but rather use the comparison/contrast

to promote some values or attitudes which are important to you.

(CAUTION:  This does not mean you don't have to play fair.  If your

comparison is effective and persuasive, you must treat the side you

don't agree with with a certain degree of respect.)

Compare or contrast the same specific qualities or elements in

each side.  If you're comparing, for instance, two cars, it's not fair

to contrast a Mazda Miata with a Ford Explorer (unless, of course, your

real comparison is not of cars, but rather of the lifestyles each

represents.)
