A Survey of Music History explores the development of the art form of music from its beginnings to the diversity of styles we recognize in today’s music. It is taught in two separate parts covering two different historical periods, but designed to be distinct, non-sequential courses.  Both courses cover the basics of musical expression, including definition, origins of harmony and instruments.  Each course will explore the differing forms, styles and prominent composers to each period of history: Music 113: Antiquity to 1800; Music 114: 1750 to present.
