Class Description

Group Piano is designed to provide basic keyboard experience for non-music majors and to prepare beginning music majors for the piano-competency requirement.  Studies will include rudimentary technique, theory, musical interpretation and learning to play/understand simple chord/harmonic structures.

Policy

Attendance is vital to success in this class.  Tests missed because of absence can not be made up without express permission of the instructor.  Good listening/observing, as well as active participation is vital in obtaining a good grade.  Grading breakdown is as follows – 20% - Mid-Term, 20% - Final, 20% - Participation/Effort, 20% - Quizzes, 10% - Attendance, 10% - Discretionary Points given by instructor as a rating of student involvement/progress in class.  The goal is to empower students and to foster an academic relationship wherein the student takes full responsibility for the learning and assessment process.  It is inappropriate for an instructor to discuss a student’s issues with anyone other than the student.  This includes parents, any family members or others.
