COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces the
student to modern symbolic or mathematical logic. In the course of the quarter, we will learn
the elements of three formal languages (TL, QL and ML) and learn to test
arguments in each of these languages for formal validity.
EXAMS AND GRADING: There will be four exams
during the quarter, as above, with the final exam held at the regularly
scheduled time. All exams are to be
taken as scheduled; no make-up or late exams will be allowed. No other assignments will be required and no
extra credit will be offered. Students’
grades will be based on the total amount of points out of 100 possible and will
be calculated in accordance with the following scale of percentages:
100-95 A 87-86 B- 73-70 D+

CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM: Cheating and
plagiarism of any kind will result in immediate and automatic failure for the
assignment or test and recommendation for disciplinary action against the
offending student will be sent to the dean of students.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: This is a lecture course. Students are expected to attend class daily,
be on time and to avoid disruptive behavior (especially private conversion during class time) as well as to
participate in in-class activities.
Failure to do so will adversely affect your grade.
