What is a Transfer Student?
A bachelor’s degree consists of at least 180 college level quarter (or 120 semester) credits. As a transfer student, you may complete about half of your bachelor’s degree at Bellevue Community College (BCC) your freshman and sophomore years.
How Do I Complete the 90 Credits?
With a transfer degree! This is a degree that allows you to complete at least 90 of the required bachelor’s degree requirements. With careful planning, it is possible to complete the university admissions requirements and major program entry requirements.
For the most seamless transfer, you are strongly encouraged to see a BCC curriculum advisor and a BCC faculty advisor to select the courses most appropriate for your major field of interest.
Also consult with the university you wish to transfer to for the university’s admissions requirements and major program entry requirements. This may include information on application deadlines, transcripts, scores from SATs or ACTs, personal statements, grade point average (GPA), letters of recommendation, foreign language to name a few.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Updated:June 29, 2007
Do I Need a Foreign Language?
Many Washington state universities and colleges require:
- TWO years of a single foreign language taken in high school or TWO quarters at a community college for admissions.
Careful: Depending on your major, you may need a third quarter to graduate with your bachelor’s degree.
- There are majors that require completion through the103 level (of a single foreign language) to graduate!
Main and Branch Campuses May Have Different Requirements:
Check with your transfer institution to obtain the most up-to-date information.
- Be a competitive applicant. If your major requires it, finish the 103 level here at BCC before transferring. It will look great on your transcript.
Can I Fulfill My Foreign Language Requirements at BCC?
The BCC World Language Department offers:
(Consult with this department to see which languages are offered through the 200 level)
American Sign Language
Arabic
Chinese
French
German
Italian
Japanese
Spanish
What if I am Unsure What Level to Take?
The World Languages Department does not have placement tests to determine your level of expertise. However, generally speaking, one year of high school foreign language equals one quarter of college level.
Consult with the department for further information at Arts & Humanities Division, World Languages Department, Building “A” Room A245, 425-564-2341, website http://bellevuecollege.edu/Artshum/flang.asp
