What is Rave Alert?
Rave Alert is Bellevue College’s official emergency notification system used to communicate with students and employees during campus emergencies. Rave Alert is a licensed service Bellevue College pays for to offer the quickest and most reliable communications possible. This system is used only during campus emergencies that pose a safety concern for the community.
Who may use BC’s Rave Alert system?
Our Rave Alert system is only intended for Bellevue College employees and students.
What types of messages are considered emergency messages?
Emergencies are considered any event that poses a safety risk to the campus community. For example, the most common use of Rave Alert will be to communicate when the college is closed due to inclement weather. Other types of emergencies may include unexpected occurrences such as earthquakes or power outages, or any unexpected event that poses danger or puts your safety at risk. Read more about what to do in an emergency.
How will I identify incoming messages from BC’s Rave Alert system?
Text messages sent from Rave Alert are sent using something called short codes. When you receive a text via a short code, you’ll receive a message from either 67283 or 226787. We strongly encourage you to save this number in your phone address book after you receive your first message. This way, in future emergencies, the message will be more recognizable as an official communication from the college. If your carrier or phone does not support short code messaging, messages you receive will appear to come from BCAlerts@getrave.com.
Email messages sent from Rave Alert will be sent from the email address: BCAlerts@getrave.com. Please be sure this email address is not blacklisted or blocked by your email providers.
How do I prevent alerts from being delivered to junk mail?
Email messages sent from Rave Alert will be sent from the email address: BCAlerts@getrave.com. After you configure your alerts the first time, check your email software and make sure this email address is an approved email you wish to receive.
How do I subscribe?
You are automatically subscribed to the Rave Alert system within 24 hours after you’ve created your BC NetID and email address. If you’re a student, you sign up for your NetID any time after applying for admissions. You may continue using this system after you leave the college. If you’re an employee, you are issued a NetID and email address the first week of employment.
How do I unsubscribe?
You cannot opt out of emergency messages delivered to your BC-issued email address; however, you can unsubscribe your phone and email addresses by logging into the system and deleting these subscriptions. You may also stop messages directly through your phone by texting the word STOP to 67283.
How do I log in to Rave Alert?
You’ll use your Bellevue College NetID (network identification) to log in. Your NetID includes the username and password you use to log in to your desktop computer, computers in labs or workstations, MyBC, or Canvas. If you possess both a student account and an employee account, you’ll need to use your employee NetID to log in. Your student account will not work in this situation.
How do I stop receiving messages?
If you have never attended Bellevue College before and have received an emergency alert from our system, it’s likely that your phone number was previously used by someone affiliated with Bellevue College who used this system. You may opt out of receiving these text messages by texting the word STOP to 67283. These instructions should also be included in the text of every message you receive.
Will I get SPAM or advertisements?
No, never. We respect your privacy and you will never receive anything except for official Bellevue College emergency communications.
I’m a parent of a BC student. May I subscribe to Rave Alert?
No, you can’t subscribe directly, however your student has the option to include additional contact numbers and email addresses in their account. You can ask your student to add your contact information to their account on your behalf. You may also choose to subscribe to flashalert.net, a regional emergency communications list which is open to anyone to join.
Is there a charge for the service?
The Rave Alert system will not charge you in any way. However, you are responsible for paying all messaging charges associated with your wireless carrier plan.
What mobile phone carriers are supported?
Rave Alert supports all U.S. mobile carriers.
What if my cell phone number or provider changes?
If you change your mobile number, please log in to the system and update your contact details. If you’ve changed providers, but your number hasn’t changed, you may want to update your carrier information in your subscription settings as well.
This step is not required—it will eventually be updated by the mobile carrier in Rave Alert, but this update may take a few weeks to reflect in the system. To ensure you do not miss any emergency messages, you may also simply log in to the system and update your carrier information in your settings directly.
