Two kinds of ESL instruction are offered at BCC:

The English Language Institute (ELI) offers intensive ESL and community ESL programs for people with tourist and student visas, as well as local residents. Contact the ELI or see their web page for more information. There is a fee for these courses.

ABE/ESL classes are for adult citizens, immigrants and refugees only. There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee for these classes. These classes will help students to:

  • Develop listening and communication skills necessary as adults in family, community or workplace situations
  • Read and write in English for a variety of purposes
  • Learn about American culture and everyday life in the United States

ESL Classes:

  • 6 levels of English
  • ESL classes are 4 to 8 hours per week
  • Day and evening classes
  • Program participants may enroll in the Basic Skills Learning Lab for additional English practice with lab instructors and tutors through the Volunteer Tutor Program
  • Special one-quarter classes in Job Preparation and computer literacy

Requirements:

  • All new students must take a placement test, oral and written
  • Age 18 or over

This is a 3-quarter continuous enrollment program. Homework and regular attendance are required. Students with unexcused absences will be dropped from classes.

A reduced number of ESL classes are offered during summer quarter.
