BASEBALL AND AMERICAN CULTURE

Step up to bat with a course that will examine the effects of baseball on American society. How has the sport evolved to reflect the changes in our culture?Can baseball be seen as a mirror of both trends and problems in our lives? "Play Ball!" will examine how men and women of different ethnic and racial groups have impacted the sport and the country.

Course materials will include novels by major American authors, films, documentaries and essays dealing with baseball, society and the individual. Designated visitors will be sharing their insights with us. Batter up for a course that offers a great change (up)!
