Text: Ronald B Adler & George Rodman, Understanding Human Communication, 8th Edition
Course Goal: To provide
the environment, information and support to facilitate your learning the
essential skills in becoming a better communicator in inerpersonal
relationships, in groups, and when delivering a speech.
Objectives:
1. To be able to articulate a basic
understanding of the relationship that you have to your effectiveness as a
communicator.
2. To increase your ability to listen effectively and to provide supportive
feedback to your classmates.
3. To develop greater comfort and effectiveness in presenting your
ideas to a public audience.
Attendance and
Participation: Class attendance is mandatory. This class is interactive which means that
there needs to be an audience capable of providing feedback. Therefore, I reduce the overall grade for
more than 5 absences. There will be no make up or rescheduling of presentation dates. You may switch dates with other students as
long as you notify me before the speaking date. There are some practices
that are critical in a class of performance. These are: Do not
enter the class when a student is presenting.
Wait in the hall and enter quietly when the speech is complete.
Grading Scale: Total points
