Women’s Soccer Keeps Steady Pace

Bellevue College women’s soccer took on Tacoma CC October 27 in Tacoma, and came away with a 1-1 tie. Both teams played competitively, with the momentum continually shifting back and forth. It was also a strong defensive performance from both sides as scoring goals came at a premium. After a scoreless first half, neither Tacoma nor Bellevue scored until the latter minutes of the game. Bellevue’s Treva Leroy scored the only goal for the Bulldogs in the 80th minute; responding to Tacoma’s goal in the 77th minute. “Tacoma is a tough opponent to play, especially on the road,” said BC’s head coach Sasha Shefts.

On Sat., October 30, during Bellevue’s second match of the week, this time at home, visitor Green River also held the Bulldogs’ offense in check for the majority of day. Not to be outdone, Bellevue’s defense kept pace with their opponent. The difference turned out to be Bulldogs captain Brittney Conway’s goal in the 88th minute, pulling out a 1-0 victory.

The Bellevue women have clinched the NWAACC West Region Championship with a league record 9-1-3, season 11-2-3. Two more matches finish the regular season schedule: the Bulldogs host Peninsula (5-4-4, 5-6-5) Weds., November 3, and the game will be played at Sammamish High School in Bellevue beginning at 6 PM; finally, the BC women wrap up their regular season against Highline CC November 6, playing at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila at 9 AM.

Playoffs are November 10 and 13, leading up to the NWAACC Championship Tournament to be played at Starfire in Tukwila Nov. 20-21.
