Team Captain Brady Kerr’s gray squad took the end-of-fall season world series two games to one over Jordan Silva’s blue squad. On Tuesday October 15, Silva’s navy squad won the opener 6-0 as shortstop Sheldon Stober hit a solo home run off gray starter Brandon Mahovlich in the first inning. Aaron Stroosma added an RBI single to drive in Stober in the fourth before the lead was extended off reliever Clayton Huber, as singles by Silva, John Bodenhamer, and Zander Clouse contributed to three more runs. Nick Kiel struck out three and surrendered only two hits and no walks in his three innings of work for the win. Clouse pitched two scoreless innings while yielding only one hit.

On Wednesday October 16, Team Kerr’s gray squad bounced back with a 9-3 win over Team Silva-navy. Due to the unavailability of pitchers Corbin Powers and Koleman Johns (attending a late afternoon class), team Silva was forced to pitch position players who have not pitched before. Tyson Schmitt went three innings and allowed only one hit for the win for Team Silva.Kurt Lindemann went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Mahovlich and Nick Pribble added two hits.

On Thursday October 17, Team Kerr’s gray squad rallied behind the pitching of Alex Hatch and Mahovlich to take the series, winning 8-1. Hatch was brilliant on the mound, striking out five while walking only one in his three innings of work. Mahovlich entered i the 4th and allowed only one hit in preserving the win. After the team traded runs in the first inning, Team Kerr began to break it open after Lindemann, coming off a hot Wednesday game, smoked a single to right field driving in Alex Check who singled to lead off the inning. Joakim Soderqvist’s successful squeeze bunt scored Lindemann to make it 3-1. Kerr’s squad then broke it open with five runs in the following inning as his double to left-center scored Pribble and Check. Outfielders Soderqvist and Nate Anderson had two hits apiece. The series win by Team Kerr allows them the fall season free of field duties as Team Silva’s squad will rake all the leaves that fall during the next two months off the Paul Villiott Memorial tree, which stands prominently at the entrance of Courter Field. The traditional job for the losing team has become an arduous task over the years, as the tree, originally planted in the late 70’s in memory of the former Bellevue third baseman Paul Villiott, has grown to over 100 feet tall.

The team ended the fall season with outstanding scrimmages against Pierce, Tacoma, the Seattle Mariners scout team, and Seattle University. Strong starting pitching in addition to a deep hitting lineup dotted with experience and physical strength from top to bottom highlighted an excellent fall season. The team will now engage in five-day-a-week strength and conditioning sessions along with two one-hour blocks of skill instruction per week, as permitted by NWAACC regulations, until the start of spring practice slated for Friday January 17. The Bulldogs open the 2014 season against Lane CC with a neutral site doubleheader on Friday February 28 to be played on the artificial turf field at Wilsonville (OR) HS.
