Balanced Attack Key to Bulldog Women’s Basketball Victories

Rogers action

The Bulldogs  women’s basketball team increased their win streak to five games this past week  by beating Shoreline CC and Everett CC on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.  The Bellevue College women are now 3-0 in league and 10-6 overall.

Bellevue has  relied on a balanced attack to continue their winning ways. The Bulldogs hosted  Shoreline on Wednesday, January 8, and won by a score of 79 to 58. The Bulldogs  built an early lead and never looked back, going up by 19 points in the first  half. Bellevue out-rebounded Shoreline 62-33, including 31 offensive rebounds.  The Bulldogs were led by four players scoring in double figures: Airashay  Rogers led with a team-high with 14 points; sophomore Jori Hall recorded yet  another double-double scoring         10 points with 13 rebounds, including seven  offensive; Tayler Flemming added 10 points; and Hunter Hopkins contributed 11  for the Bulldogs. Bellevue was able to move the ball well throughout, managing  17 assists, led by Flemming with five and Stephanie Antioquia with four.

Saturday, the  Bulldogs took on North Region rival Everett Community College, and defeated the  visiting Trojans 68-61.  The Bulldogs  were down by five points at halftime, but battled back in the second half to regain  the lead and push it 16. However, the Trojans would not give up and brought the  game back up to within five points with only three minutes left on the clock. Bellevue  was able to secure the victory with key stops in those final moments.

Once again the  Bulldogs were led by a balanced attack which has become the storyline to their  recent winning streak. The Bulldogs were led by sophomore forward Alexis Berrysmith  who recorded a double-double scoring 12 points and bringing in 13 rebounds, seven  of which were offensive. Berrysmith shot 67% from the field. Rogers contributed  12 points, with five assists and five steals, while Flemming added 11 points,  nine rebounds and two key blocks.

Bellevue is in  action Wednesday, January 15, traveling to take on Edmonds at 5:00 p.m.; next  home game for the Bulldogs is Saturday, January 18, when Bellevue hosts Whatcom  at 4:00 p.m.
