Hannah Sauget hit one of the back-to-back home runs to help Bellevue sweep Douglas

Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs split a doubleheader with Douglas in two very close games. Yesterday, May 6, on their home turf, the Dawgs prevailed in both games, beating first place Douglas 4-2 and 6-5.

In game one, Bellevue scored four runs in the fourth inning, with Lauren Burchak and Heather Benjamin knocking in two RBI’s each in the inning. Douglas threatened in the top of the fifth, answering with two runs, but pitcher Brielle Bray stayed strong, working out of a few jams, to limit the Royals to just the two runs over seven innings.

In game two, the Dawgs came out hot, scoring two runs in the first inning. However, Douglas took a 5-2 lead into the third.  The Dawgs, never giving in, responded with back-to-back homeruns by Hannah Sauget and Lauren Burchak to even the score at 5-5. In a back-and-forth battle over the next four innings, the score remained tied at 5-5 until the bottom of the seventh. Bellevue’s Taylor Pottschmidt led off with a base hit to left field. With two outs, Burchak singled up the middle to move Pottschmidt to second before Heather Benjamin drilled a hard ground ball past the third baseman to score Pottschmidt for the winning run. BC pitcher Brooke Bonsen picked up the win, doing a great job containing the Douglas bats!

The Dawgs, now only one game back of first place Douglas in the North move to 14-4 in league and 25-13 overall. Join us to cheer on the Bulldogs at home Saturday, May 10, and help us celebrate our sophomores, as they play their last regular season ballgames of the year!  Games are at Bellevue College vs. Skagit Valley at 2 PM and 4 PM.
