Women’s Tennis Claims NWAACC Title; Chapman Named Coach of the Year

After a one-year hiccup in NWAACC women’s tennis dominance, Bellevue College’s women’s tennis team got back on track in 2014 by capturing the NWAACC Championship last weekend May 9-10 in Spokane. Bellevue narrowly defeated Spokane by 5 points in the team totals.  After winning eight consecutive NWAACC titles, the streak was broken last year in 2013. Head Coach Jason Chapman was named NWAACC Coach of the Year for bringing the Bulldogs back to the top. It is his ninth title at Bellevue.   Rixing Xu, the defending NWAACC Champion in #1 singles and Baden Player of the Year in 2013, dominated again this year by taking the #1 singles title by scores of 6-1, 6-0 defeating Skagit Valley’s Kille Beuse 6-1, 6-0.  Xu also repeats as doubles champion with teammate Kristy Braunston.  The pair bounced back from a first set loss to defeat Beuse and teammate Hayley Newman 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. Bellevue collected only one singles title and one doubles title en route to their team title, managing to win the big point matches to hold off Spokane’s 4 singles titles and 2 double titles.
