Bellevue College volleyball wrapped up a successful season by going 2-2 at the NWAC Championships held at the Tacoma Convention Center this weekend. In the opening match on Thursday November 20, Bellevue defeated Walla Walla in straight sets 25-22, 27-25, 25-20. Walla Walla, although the #3 seed from the east region, was coming in being touted as one of the top teams and was ranked sixth in the NWAC Coaches’ Poll. Setter Danielle Smullin had 35 assists to lead Bellevue. Kayley Watkins, Kelcie Russell and Angela Jones were strong up front with 10 kills apiece. In the winners’ bracket on Friday November 21, Bellevue lost to Clackamas 25-19, 25-17, 26-24. Sara Pulaski had 20 digs and also had two service aces to lead Bellevue. That same day, Bellevue came back in the loser bracket to defeat north region foe Skagit Valley in three 25-21, 21-25, 15-8. Pulaski had 18 digs and was complemented by Loretta Forrest who had 15. Smullin had 24 assists as well. On Saturday November 22, Bellevue lost to Tacoma to end their season in straight sets 25-12 and 25-16. Bellevue could not get anything going offensively which proved to be crucial in losers’ bracket matches that are only three sets in duration as Pulaski had 11 digs. Bellevue finishes the year 20-12 under Jocelyn Lawrence, who took over as Interim Head Coach at the beginning of the season and was later named during the season as permanent Head Coach for Bellevue College volleyball by Athletic Director Bill O’ Connor.
