BC Softball Opens Up Season 2-2 in Portland

Bellevue College softball won a pair of games over a four-year university, but lost two to an rival NWAC team as the Bulldogs went 2-2 to open up the season in a four game set at Delta Park in Portland, OR on Saturday February 28 and Sunday March 1. On Saturday, Bellevue lost their season-opener 9-6 to Clackamas CC. Brooke Bonsen, Bellevue’s ace sophomore pitcher, pitched well into the 5th inning, but Clackamas rallied for all nine of their runs in the final three innings to earn the win. Freshman Rachel Delamare led BC with three hits while sophomore catcher Katie Jackson went 2-for-4. In the nightcap on Saturday, Bellevue defeated Northwest Christian University 13-7. Freshman Ciera Lockwood went the distance on the mound as sophomore shortstop Erin Scott led BC with a 3-for-5 day at the plate including two doubles and four RBI’s. Heather Benjamin, Bellevue’s other sophomore catcher, went 2-for-4. On Sunday, Bellevue again defeated Northwest Christian, 7-2 as Bonsen went the distance on the mound, striking out five. Scott again had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s. In their final game, BC lost to Clackamas 13-4. The Cougars scored all 13 of their runs in the first four innings for the easy win over Bellevue. Up next for Bulldog softball is the Inter-Region tourney this weekend at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
