Bellevue College baseball not only won all four games over Pierce College this weekend, but did them in tight situations as the Bulldogs ran their record to 7-1. On Saturday March 7, Corbin Powers pitched Bellevue to victory in game one . The lefty had his second solid start of the year and did not allow an earned run. Pierce rallied in the final inning with runners in scoring position. A pop up to shallow center field appeared to be the game winner for Pierce but Bellevue shortstop Niko De La Cruz made a highlight basket-style catch to end the game. In game two on Saturday, Bellevue could only manage three hits compared to Pierce’s six, but squeaked out the win via the pitching of Logan Christensen, Noel Gonzalez, Marty Luckenbach, and Zander Clouse. Sam Finfer and Lawyer Braun had key RBI’s to win it for Bellevue. On Sunday March 8, Bellevue played their home opener and fell behind early as Pierce jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Bellevue’s offense was the side that carried the team on this day, as De La Cruz hit his first home run of the year; a three-run shot in the second to get Bellevue right back into the game. Pitcher Kash Koltermann then settled down for Bellevue, blanking Pierce for the next three innings which then allowed BC to take the lead for the first time and for good on a mammoth grand slam home run by Alex Galgano; a shot to left-center field in one of the deepest parts of Courter Field. Pierce rallied with a runner at third base in the final inning but were shut down by Bellevue reliever Drew Lomsdalen.  In the final game of the series, Bellevue again came from behind after spotting Pierce a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored in the final three innings to win 5-3 as Trai Patrick had two hits and three RBI’s. The freshmen pitching combo of Cody Anderson and Brooks Hanson were stellar for the second week in a row. After a clutch relief stint last week, Anderson worked a solid five innings, throwing only 70 pitches. Hanson again was brilliant in long relief. After going five innings and taking the ‘dogs into an extra inning win last week, Hanson went four innings to give the Bulldog hitters a chance to come back. Bellevue travels to Yakima Tuesday March 10 for a 2:30 pm doubleheader.
