Bellevue Men’s Tennis Defeated by Nationally Ranked Whitman, 9-0

Bellevue College’s men’s tennis team lost 9-0 to Whitman College on Sunday March 8, a four-year university that is currently ranked 13th in the nation and sports a 10-1 record. Whitman’s Chase Friedman won the day at No. 1 singles, taking down Bellevue’s Valentin Podgornyy by scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Robert Carter rolled to a straight-set win over Bellevue’s Shinya Maruyama by scores of 6-2 and 7-5. The day before, Bellevue participated in the NWAC Spring Jamboree, a non-counting exhibition event held in Yakima. Bellevue’s men claimed the top three spots in men’s singles and top two spots in men’s doubles. Because of the exhibition nature, the Bellevue players chose not to play each other in the finals.
