On Sunday, March 29, Bellevue College softball hosted their North Region rival, Douglas College in a key matchup for early bragging rights for the league. The talent on both sides was evident as the teams ended up splitting the doubleheader. Bellevue won the first game 8-2 before losing game two 5-1.

Brooke Bonsen pitched Bellevue to the win in the 8-2 victory scattering seven hits in the complete game win. Offensively, the Bulldog bats faced the challenge of Douglas’ ace pitcher Tori Belton, who entered the game with one of the lowest ERA’s in the entire NWAC below 1.00.  Bellevue’s Tessani Dixon showed why she is one of the most feared hitters in the NWAC as she went 3-for-3 off Belton, and keyed Bellevue’s win with two home runs and four RBI’s in the game. Dixon also scored three runs as well as a one-person wrecking crew.

In game two, a quick start by Douglas proved to be the difference as the Royals put up four quick runs off Bellevue starter Ciera Lockwood. The early lead was all Douglas would need in the 5-1 win. Cassidy Mast had two hits for the Bulldogs. Dixon, who was coming off a hot first game, was silenced be being walked twice by Douglas’ pitcher Morganne Blattman.

Bellevue is now 3-1 in league and 11-7 overall. Their next games are this Tuesday, March 31 at Everett. The doubleheader is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
