Bellevue Baseball Splits Series With Skagit Valley

Bellevue College baseball won two games and let one slip away to end up splitting a four-game set with Skagit Valley College.

On Thursday, April 6, Bellevue lost a pitching duel by a score of 2-1 before winning the nightcap 3-1. Zander Clouse was the tough-luck loser in game one that went extra innings. Clouse struck out six and lowered his ERA to 2.11. In the top of the seventh inning, Niko De La Cruz delivered with a line drive up the middle to score the tying run. Clouse answered by shutting down Skagit in the bottom of the inning. The Cardinals scratched across a run in the eighth inning however for the win.  In game two, Corbin Powers was electric in his second dominating start in a row. Powers struck out nine in the complete game win. Dylan Vchulek had two hits to raise his average to .349 to lead Bellevue offensively.

On Sunday, April 9, Skagit traveled down to Bellevue’s Courter Field to continue the series. Bellevue rallied late to win a thriller in game one 9-8 before giving up a four-run lead late in game two to fall 13-11. The two high scoring affairs were complete contrasts to the doubleheader on Thursday which were pitching duels all night long. In game one, Bellevue again went extra innings but this time came out ahead. After Skagit got two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie it, both Skagit and Bellevue scored two apiece in the eighth before BC won in the ninth as De La Cruz squeezed in Alex Galgano for the winner. In game two BC pitching crumbled as the team squandered a four run lead late as Skagit put up six unanswered runs to win game two.

Bellevue is now 6-6 and takes on North Region rival, Everett this Saturday April 18 at noon (earlier start) at Everett Memorial Stadium before hosting Everett on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
