Bellevue College baseball defeated Green River 6-1 on Wednesday, April 29 in a non-league game at Courter Field. The afternoon mid-week special has become a custom between the two schools that are 30 minutes away from each other, but in different regions. 2015 marks the third consecutive year the clubs have played mid-week non-league game.

Eight Bellevue pitchers were used to get tune up work and held the Gators to one run and only four hits in the game. Danny Torlai made his pitching debut and earned the save, throwing only six pitches; five of them being strikes.

Offensively, in what was initially a slow-paced game, the Bulldogs got things going by tying it up 1-1 in the fifth on a single by Zach Usselman. Bellevue extended the lead in the seventh as Lawyer Braun, who had three hits on the day, doubled to lead off. Evan Johnson later followed with a three-run line drive home run in left center field. Johnson had four RBI’s on the day while Usselman had three hits.

Bellevue is now 25-14 overall and hosts Douglas College in their final home games of the year this Saturday, May 2. The doubleheader is expected to be under ideal weather conditions and will start at 1:00 p.m.
