As the Bellevue College women’s basketball team ran their record to 2-0 in league last night with a 69-46 win over visiting Olympic, the Bulldogs showed once again that any one player can step up to lead the team. Last night, freshman Montana Hagstrom carried the ‘dogs by pouring in 26 points. The freshman from nearby Sammamish HS was the only player to make a three-pointer, shooting 3-for-8 from three-point range. Hagstrom also led BC with 5 steals. Sophomore Mikayla Jones had an excellent all-around night with 21 points and 10 rebounds, 3 steals, and a team-leading 9 assists.

The Bulldogs, who opened the season with a relatively thin roster due to injuries, showed it’s increasing depth last night with 12 players getting action, including the return of freshman Hannah Szendre who was coming off an injury. The increasing quality of play from off the bench will be critical as the Bulldogs will need to play several games in consecutive nights once the conference championship arrives in March.

The Bulldogs are now 12-3 and face a challenge this Saturday January 16 as they travel to North Region rival Skagit Valley, who are also 2-0 in league play, for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff. Skagit Valley is also historically known as one of the most difficult places to play on the road, making the Saturday matchup even more challenging.
