Down by a score of 40-20, one would think ‘no chance’ for any type of comeback win. But Bellevue College’s women’s basketball team almost proved it could happen, falling in a 70-63 loss at Skagit Valley last night.

The cold-shooting Bulldogs, who only shot 33 percent from the field, came out in the third quarter on fire, outscoring Skagit Valley 20-10; cutting the 20-point halftime deficit in half. The Bulldogs then went on to pour in 23 points in the final quarter, but the Cardinals’ clutch free throw shooting iced the win for the home team in a battle of unbeatens.

The Bulldogs, who have generally found a way to generate offense either from the perimeter or from down inside, could not get anything going to offset the foul trouble they were in all night as well.

Skagit Valley made 25 of 31 attempts from the free throw line. Bellevue only had 10 total free throw attempts in the game.  The foul trouble in addition to the seventeen extra freebie points at the line by Skagit Valley were key components in the win for the Cardinals.

Freshman Montana Hagstrom led BC with 19 points and 5 steals.

Bellevue is at Edmonds on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.
