When they needed a win the most, the Bellevue College men’s basketball team came up with one once again as the Bulldogs hammered visiting Whatcom 70-55 last night at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field all night as Whatcom, attempting to come back from a 37-31 halftime deficit, forced up shots, making only 9-of-34 for a 27 percent mark.

Yonathan Michael led BC with 17 points. The balanced attack was also fueled by sophomore Brian Zehr and Jordan Muir-Keung with 12 points apiece. Zehr also led the ‘dogs with 9 rebounds. Quentin Moore added 10 points. Bellevue also kept Whatcom at a distance in the second half making nearly 80 percent from the free throw line.

The win by Bellevue, coupled with an upset win by Shoreline over Everett, now puts Bellevue (6-7 in league) only one game behind Whatcom and Everett (7-6) for third place. Bellevue travels to Everett for what could be the deciding game of their post season destiny. The matchup for the final playoff spot will be Sunday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.
