The Bellevue College women’s basketball team honored their departing sophomores last night during pre-game festivities then followed up by rewarding them with a final home court win of 70-66 last night at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The win did not come without some suspense, as Whatcom outscored Bellevue 27-21 in the final quarter to make things interesting.

After racing out to a 36-24 halftime lead, Whatcom chipped away, thanks to many second chance opportunities offensively, as the Orcas had 21 points off of offensive rebounds. Much of the havoc was from Whatcom’s Lindsey Honeycutt, who had 30 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulldogs honored their sophomores by inserting all five of them into the starting lineup for the regular season finale, and were led by the 18 points of Mikayla Jones. Savannah Reid had a big night draining 4-of-8 from three point territory and had 14 points in addition to 5 assists and 3 steals. Freshman Erin Hamilton, a regular starter for BC, came off the bench to score 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

The win by Bellevue, coupled with a loss by Skagit Valley last night, now puts Bellevue in sole possession of second place with an 11-2 league record (21-5 overall). Bellevue’s last regular season game will be this Sunday February 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Everett.
