Bellevue College baseball is now halfway done with their six-week fall training session, with their final scrimmage against an outside opponent this Sunday October 2. Bellevue will host Tacoma CC and the Seattle Mariners High School Scout Team (a collection of some of the top prep players in the northwest) on Sunday in a round-robin format at Courter Field. Bellevue will square off with the Mariners team at 11:00 a.m. The Mariner team will then play Tacoma at 1:45 p.m. while the Bulldogs take a break before the final scrimmage at 4:45 p.m. between Bellevue and Tacoma.

Last weekend, the Bulldogs had a busy weekend with Scout Day on Thursday September 22, an 18 inning scrimmage at Edmonds on Friday September 23, and the NWAC Showcase on Saturday September 24. 30 scouts and 4-year recruiters showed up for the team’s annual preview of players. The new Bulldog hitters put on a show, popping out 16 home runs and ran excellent 60 yard dash times.  Scout reports indicated newcomers Austin Shenton, Brennen Hancock, Michael Carter, and Mason Cerrillo showed well at the plate along with returners Austin Pinorini and Grant DeLappe. Top runners included Dominic Marinez (6.86 seconds), Pinorini (6.89), DeLappe (6.86), and Eli Gallo, who ran the fastest time on the team (6.80).

On Friday September 23, Bellevue split a doubleheader with Edmonds. Due to NWAC scrimmage regulations, official score was not kept. Freshman Aki Buckson showed well on the mound as did returners Josh Thompson and Robbie Shineman, who both made quick work in their two innings.

On Saturday September 24, in front of a record 79 college coaches and scouts, the five Bulldog representatives stood out as Pinorini was one of the highlight performers in the entire event, running a 6.8 60, having the best catcher throwdown time in 1.90 seconds, and went a perfect 3-for-3 in the scrimmage. Gallo ran a 6.8 also, and had the top infield arm at 86 mph along with two other infielders. Cerrillo also showed well in the live portion while Bellevue’s lone pitcher representative, Kash Koltermann, had the second highest velocity reading of all left-handers in the entire showcase.

Bellevue will have a Pinstripe vs. Grey scrimmage on Friday October 7 at 7:00 p.m. All parents are invited to attend. Free food and beverages will be available.

Bellevue will wrap up the fall season with the annual fall world series. This year’s schedule is tentatively set for a best three-out-of-five series. The losing team will have the daunting task of raking leaves which fall from the massive Villiott Memorial oak tree at the entrance to Courter Field. Here is the tentative schedule:

Tue. Oct. 11 3:00 p.m.
Wed. Oct. 12 6:00 p.m.
Thu. Oct. 13 3:00 p.m.
Fri. Oct. 14 2:00 p.m.
Sat. Oct. 15 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.

Bellevue will have the 2017 roster and schedule posted soon.
