Bellevue College women’s basketball took third in the competitive Skagit Valley Tourney this week with a 54-53 win over Big Bend yesterday. Brenda Akoto led BC in scoring (19 points), rebounds (10), and blocked shots (5) as Bellevue held onto the win after leading much of the way. Molly Dixon added 13 points and was 3-for-5 from three point range.

On Thursday December 29, the Bulldogs lost a close one in the semi-final matchup against Spokane, losing 73-72. The game was close from the opening tip-off and came down to the wire but BC fell short despite the 22 points of Dixon and Akoto.

On Wednesday December 28, Bellevue opened up the tourney with a convincing 68-56 win over Grays Harbor College. Down by five at halftime, the Bulldogs outscored the Chokers 40-23 in the second half to cruise to the win. Akoto led Bellevue with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Melinda Akoto had 11 points and 11 rebounds contributing as a dual threat as well. Sierra Cole was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line and ended up with 13 points.

The Bulldogs are 8-4 on the year and will play their final non-league tune up against Centralia on January 4 at 6:00 p.m. in Centralia.
