Bulldog Women Beat Edmonds; Returns To Top 8 in Coaches’ Poll

Bellevue College women’s basketball represented their return into the NWAC Under Armour Coaches’ Poll in style with a 72-30 win over visiting Edmonds tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.  Earlier in the day, the latest poll was released with Bellevue returning in the poll coming in at 6th overall in the NWAC. The Bulldogs’ road win over Peninsula in addition to a hot win streak have brought the Bulldogs back into the rankings.

In the win over Edmonds, Bellevue had a 41-12 lead at halftime. Twins Brenda and Melinda Akoto led BC with 18 and 13 points respectively, while both pulled down a commanding team-leading 11 rebounds apiece. Brenda also had 3 blocked shots, 2 steals, and 6 assists, leading the ‘dogs in all of those categories. Erin Hamilton had 13 points as well on 6-for-7 shooting from the field. With the buildup of the early lead, all of the Bulldogs saw plenty of playing time throughout the night which led to a balanced effort.

Bellevue is now riding a six game winning streak and continue to be tied for first place in the region with Peninsula. Both teams are gridlocked at 7-1 in league and 15-6 overall. Bellevue travels to Mount Vernon to take on Skagit Valley in a key game this Saturday February 11. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. Skagit Valley is lurking close behind BC at 6-2 in league play.
