In a four-game series that was split between last Wednesday March 1 and Saturday March 4 due to inclement weather, the Bellevue College baseball team salvaged only one win against Pierce College. On Wednesday March 1, Bellevue lost 10-3 as the Raiders roughed up BC starter Josh Thompson who lasted 2 2/3 innings as Pierce put up a 6-0 lead through three innings and never looked back. Bellevue also suffered from defensive miscues, as the team had five errors on the day. Freshman catcher Michael Carter was 2-for-3 with a double. In the nightcap, Bellevue managed to hold on to a 7-5 win behind the pitching of Kash Koltermann and the stellar defense of catcher Austin Pinorini. Koltermann struck out 9 in and gave up only 3 hits in 4 innings of work. Pinorini, coming straight into the game after reporting late due to an academic class, came on to catch as Pierce rallied in the 6th inning and proceeded to throw out three runners for all three outs to end the threat. Bellevue attacked early putting up 5 runs in the first two innings of Pierce starter Trent Fujimoto. Grant Harris and Grant DeLappe both tripled in the first inning as BC sent all nine batters to the plate. Harris again delivered in the second inning with a key double to put Dominic Marinez in scoring position at third before Pinorini drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

On Saturday March 4, the Bulldogs lost two games, 4-3 in extra innings and 8-1 in a rain-delayed nightcap. Bellevue rallied back from an early deficit to tie the first game at 2 in the 8th on Mason Cerrillo’s clutch hit with two outs. Going into extra innings, Cerrillo came through again with a two out double to plate Pinorini to give Bellevue a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 10th, relief pitcher Harry Xue, who threw 5 1/3 of shutout relief for starter Jake Lambro, ran out of gas as he allowed the first two runners for Pierce on with a single and a hit batter on an 0-2 count. Noah Rawls entered and struck out two before walking in the winning run for Pierce. In game two, momentum switched in a hurry as Bellevue starter Elijah Hill, who was dominant for the first three innings, coaxed two outs on two pitches in the fourth before surrendering a hit and two walks and a wild pitch. Reliever Robbie Shineman could not end the threat as Pierce put up five runs, all after the two-pitch two-out start of the inning. In a game that was played in brutally cold conditions and also had a brief rain delay, Bellevue’s offense could not get anything going after falling behind early and fell 8-1.

Bellevue is slated to host Spokane this weekend on Saturday March 11 and Sunday March 12. Times and location may be altered in case of inclement weather.
