In a pieced-together fashion spanning three days at two different fields, Bellevue College baseball won all four games against visiting Spokane. On Friday March 10, BC hosted the Sasquatch for a twilight doubleheader. In game one, an 11-inning extra inning affair, BC prevailed 9-8. After jumping up 5-1, Bellevue gave up a big 5-run inning in the sixth before Austin Shenton’s big triple drove in Mason Cerrillo. Shenton had three hits in the game. Bellevue would then lose the lead in the seventh before Grant DeLappe hit a 2-run double to take the lead. BC would again give up the lead by allowing Spokane to score in the ninth before Dominic Marinez singled to drive in DeLappe for the game-winner. Eli Herrick came in relief and got the win by going two innings and striking out 4. In the nightcap, Bellevue took advantage of Spokane pitching woes as hit batters and walks aided BC to an easy 15-3 win. Austin Pinorini went 3-for-3 while Alex Aumick went six innings for the win on the mound.

On Saturday March 11, BC hosted Spokane at Rainier Beach HS, an artificial turf facility, due to inclement weather. John Samons threw a no-hitter through six innings of work. In his final inning, Samons’ no-hitter was in jeopardy as Spokane cleanup hitter Mitchell Cox hit a deep fly to center field that a diving Marinez caught to end the inning. DeLappe again delivered for Bellevue in a clutch situation with a triple to score Cerrillo, who led off the eighth with a double to give BC the 2-1 lead. Noah Rawls came on in relief and tossed 3 innings for the win.

On Sunday March 12, Bellevue’s pitching again anchored the close win in another 2-1 outcome. Jake Lambro, Elijah Hill, and Kash Koltermann each tossed 3 innings apiece as DeLappe was the hero again with a triple to the wall to score Shenton and was later driven in by an RBI single from Aki Buckson. Koltermann wiggled out a jam in the final inning as Spokane had runners at the corners with their hottest hitter, Isaac Wersland at the plate. Wersland, who had two home runs in the series already, struck out to end the threat. Shenton had another two hits in a hot weekend for the freshman third baseman. Koltermann continued his dominant trend by striking out 4 without giving up a run or walk in his three innings of work.

Bellevue, now 7-3 overall, welcomes Wenatchee Valley and Tacoma this weekend on Saturday March 18. In a three-team round robin affair over the weekend, BC will host Tacoma in a 10:00 a.m. game before taking on Wenatchee Valley at 4:00 p.m. Tacoma and Wenatchee will play a 1:00 p.m. game in between. It is Wenatchee Valley’s first visit to Bellevue in over 20 years.
