After a rough start to open North Region play, the Bellevue College softball team got back into it’s normal winning fashion by winning three-of-four this weekend, splitting with Highline College winning 6-1 before losing 2-1 on Saturday April 1, then sweeping Olympic 8-0 and 7-4 on Sunday April 2.

Against Highline, a pitcher’s duel ensued before BC’s bats erupted in the fifth inning as the Bulldogs put up five runs. Payton Gibbs went the distance in the circle allowing only four hits while fanning seven. Freshman Justi Johnson led Bellevue’s offense going 2-for-4 with a home run, her fifth of the year, and 2 RBI’s. In the fifth, BC put together five straight hits including a big RBI double by Gibbs and a home run by Becca Fortney. In the second game, Bellevue could not get anything going offensively against Highline ace Rosie Delrosario, who gave Bellevue difficulty in the first game as well.

In the sweep over Olympic on Sunday, Bellevue won the 8-0 opener in five innings due to the run rule as Jolene House, Gibbs, and Brianna Attwood led BC with two hits apiece. Gibbs crushed her eleventh home run of the year and was dominant in the circle as well tossing a complete game three-hitter. In game two, Bellevue fell behind 3-0 early but chipped away and eventually took over the lead for good in the sixth as Kimber Tutt hit a home run followed by Gabby Koehler’s triple which knocked out Olympic starter Nicole Jacobsen. Attwood would later add an RBI single to give Bellevue an insurance run.

Bellevue is now 5-5 in league and 15-7 overall. The Bulldogs’ next game is Saturday April 8 at Skagit Valley. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
