Bellevue College softball traveled north to Canada yesterday and unfortunately did not come home with favorable results as the Bulldogs were swept by the Royals, who were recently ranked number one in the Under Armour NWAC Coaches’ Poll released yesterday. Douglas won game one 6-1 and the nightcap 11-7.

In game one, both aces for Bellevue and Douglas, Payton Gibbs and Keeley Ainge, kept their opponents in check. However, Douglas chipped away with two runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. What was initially a small lead grew into one that would be difficult for BC to overcome as Bellevue’s offense was stymied and could only push one run across in the fifth, as Gibbs drove in the only BC run as Cierra Barkis, who led off the inning with a hit, scored.

In game two, Douglas jumped all over new BC pitchers Ryley Eldridge and Kimber Tutt for 7 runs in the first two innings. Down 11-4 in the final inning, Bellevue was able to put up three runs. The offense got going in game two as Jolene House and Bri Attwood led the way with three hits apiece. Gibbs had three RBI’s and hit her thirteenth home run of the year. Gibbs now has 43 RBI’s on the year. Attwood, who also had three RBI’s, brought her total for the year up to 24.

The losses put Bellevue at 8-8 in league and 18-10 overall. Bellevue has a doubleheader this Saturday April 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Bellevue HS against Shoreline.
