Although winning the series three games to one over Skagit Valley over the weekend, the Bulldogs left Mount Vernon with a sour taste in their mouth after blowing a 6-4 lead in the ninth before losing their sole game in extra innings. The Bulldogs and Skagit played all four games in Mount Vernon even though Bellevue was listed as home team for games three and four due to better weather up north and rainy conditions in Bellevue.

On Saturday April 22, Bellevue swept a pair as visitors by scores of 6-4 and 8-4. In game one, BC got a scare, down 4-2 with two innings to play, the ‘dogs rallied with 4 runs in the seventh as Mason Cerrillo delivered a 2-RBI hit which was immediately followed by an RBI single by Austin Shenton. Josh Thompson recorded the win as Robbie Shineman blanked Skagit over the final 1 2/3 innings for the save. In game two, Kash Koltermann and Eli Herrick struck out 9 in a solid one-two pitching effort as the power in Bellevue’s offense was unleashed. Austin Pinorini, Shenton, and Brennen Hancock all homered as Hancock joined the home run club and hit a second one out as well in the game. Hancock doubled and had 4 RBI’s in the game.

On Sunday April 23, Bellevue drove back to Mount Vernon for a 10:00 a.m. doubleheader that was moved up due to possible rain later in the day. BC appeared to be in cruise control leading 6-4 in the ninth before Skagit got two big hits to tie the game in a matter of seconds before defeating Bellevue in extra innings 8-6. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and two runners on in the bottom of the tenth but could not get one run across in squandered opportunities. After the tough loss, BC bounced back behind Elijah Hill. The big power-righty had his second straight solid start. Hill went deep into the game pitching into the eighth inning and struck out 9 while walking only 2 in the win. Offensively, Hancock continued his explosive breakout weekend with another 3 hits including two more doubles and 4 RBI’s. Shenton also continued his hot hitting with 3 hits.

Taking three-of-four puts Bellevue at 8-4 in league and 24-10 overall. Bellevue faces Shoreline this weekend hosting the Dolphins on Saturday April 29 at 1:00 p.m. before Sunday’s twinbill beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Meridian Park in north Seattle.
