Softball Rivals Pitch in for Community Service

Bellevue College and Edmonds Community College players and coaches teamed up to support the Women of Wonder racesBellevue College softball and Edmonds Community College softball, rivals on the field, joined forces off the field on Sept. 10 to volunteer for the Women of Wonder 5k and 10k run around Green Lake Park in Seattle.

The event benefits Team Survivor Northwest, an organization dedicated to empowering women cancer survivors to survive and thrive through fitness, health and wellness services. More than 1,200 runners, decked out in their best Wonder Women outfits, took part in the event and the two teams helped manage the course, provide water assistance to racers, hand out medals, take finisher pictures, demonstrate yoga and various other tasks.

“It was an honor for our two programs to support Team Survivor Northwest and be a part of such a fun event,” said Bellevue coach Leah Francis and Edmonds Sheryl Gilmore. “To see our teams come together to support our shared communities was awesome, and the energy, spirit and determination of the runners was both powerful and inspiring!”

Both of these softball programs continue to be dedicated to the NWAC’s mission of “Character. Competition. Community.”
