Bulldogs Offense Provide 50 Runs in Four Game Sweep Over Centralia
Bellevue College's young squad got over their season-opening weekend jitters by posting impressive numbers in a four-game sweep at Centralia over the weekend of March 9-10. While the weather was a stark contrast from mid 60's and sun on Saturday to upper 40's and rain on Sunday, the results were similar, as Bellevue won by scores of 6-0 and 17-5 on Saturday and 8-1 and 19-1 on Sunday.
In game one on Saturday, Nick Kiel struck out eight and faced only four batters over the minimum of eight innings of work to lead Bellevue to a 6-0 win. Noel Gonzalez came in the 9th inning and struck out the side to preserve the win. Jordan Richartz was 3-for-4 while Nick Pribble added two hits to lead Bellevue's offense. Max Brown hit the Bulldogs' first home run of the year; a solo shot in the 9th inning. In game two, freshman Brandon Mahovlich struck out ten and walked only two batters while shutting out Centralia through seven innings of work. Kurt Lindemann had three RBI's on two hits to lead Bellevue's offense that generated 17 runs on 14 hits. Nick Lombardi had a bases-loaded triple to clear the bases for the big blow in the 4th inning. Dae Lee had three hits also for the Bulldogs.
On Sunday, left-hander Jake Reppert had his second straight solid outing, allowing only one run through eight innings to lead Bellevue to an 8-1 win in the opener. Pribble had two hits and scored twice for the 'dogs. In the nightcap, Lee continued his hot hitting from Saturday's second game by hitting three doubles. Dewald DeKlerk had four hits on the day while Richartz, and freshmen infielders Ryan Malone and Sheldon Stober had breakout games with three hits apiece. For the weekend, Bellevue slugged out 50 runs and 55 hits while the four starting pitchers, Kiel, Mahovlich, Reppert, and Aaron Sandefur, allowed only three runs and 13 hits in the four games.
The wins put Bellevue at 6-2 overall as they head into a light week to prepare for academic finals with only two games coming up this weekend at Pierce College this Saturday March 16.
