SOPHOMORE SURPRISE: BULLDOGS BLITZ ORCAS

Bellevue's Sophomores led the way, as the Bulldogs routed Whatcom Community College 85-72 on February 20. Playing their final home game, BCC's veterans led the team in scoring. Clockwise from top left, Michael Duty (13 points, 7 rebounds), Randy Bolick (12 points 4 rebounds), Steve Wiseley (12 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds), and Josh Monagle (18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) led the Bulldogs to an 8-0 record at home during league play..

What started out as a heavyweight fight on Sophomore night turned into a celebration, as BCC used a 48 point second half to run away from visiting Whatcom Community College, 85-72 on February 20.

After Whatcom jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the game, the Bulldogs battled back, taking a 37-33 lead into the break. After the Orcas tied the game at 37 early in the second half, BCC's offense suddenly found a rhythm. The Bulldogs uncorked a 37-16 run over the next nine minutes to lead 74-53 with ten minutes remaining. Whatcom battled back, closing to within 10 points late in the game, but the Bulldogs held strong and came away with a critical victory.

Bellevue's four sophomores played a game to remember in their final home contest. The Bulldog veterens led six players in double figures on the night, as Bellevue racked up 22 assists as a team. Josh Monagle finished with teams highs of 18 points and 9 rebounds, and also dished out 4 assists. Point guard Steve Wiseley recorded 12 points and 7 assists, while Michael Duty combined 13 points with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocked shots, and Randy Bolick finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Rounding out the double figure scoring for BCC were freshmen Curron Singleton and Sam Cartmell, who scored 11 and 12 points respectively.
