FOUR FOR FOUR: BULLDOG SOPHOMORES CONTINUE ON TO FOUR-YEAR SCHOOLS

All four member's of BCC Men's Basketball class of 2008 will continue on to four year schools. Clockwise from top left: Michael Duty (University of Idaho), Josh Monagle (Montana Tech University), Steve Wiseley (Eastern Oregon University), and Randy Bolick (Pacific University)

The four sophomores who led the BCC Men's Basketball team to a seventh place finish at the NWAACC Championships have all committed to play basketball next season at the four year level.

"I couldn't be more proud today", said head coach Jeremy Eggers. "These guys have put a tremendous amount of work into BCC Men's Basketball, and to see them rewarded for their efforts with opportunities to continue their basketball careers is phenomenal."

Michael Duty, Josh Monagle, Steve Wiseley, and Randy Bolick were all starters in 2007-08, and were leaders on a Bulldog team which finished the season with a 22-10 record, a fourth consecutive NWAACC Tournament appearance, and a third consecutive placing at the tournament (BCC is the only school in the NWAACC to place in each of the last three seasons). Monagle, Wiseley and Bolick played two years at BCC, winning an astounding 50 games in their tenure.

Duty, who transferred to BCC from Wagner College in New York, has found himself back at the NCAA Division I level, as he will attend the University of Idaho in Moscow this fall. Averaging 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 2007-08, he was a Second Team All-Region selection. Duty was recruited to Idaho by Vandals assistant coach Mike Burns, who was the NWAACC Coach of the Year at the Community College of Spokane in 2007-08 before joining the Idaho coaching staff.

"From day one, Michael was focused on returning to the Division I level", commented Eggers. "His commitment to that goal has led him to an excellent opportunity at Idaho. He has a great upside, and I am excited to watch his game continue to blossom at the Division I level."

Monagle was the first of the four sophomores to sign, inking his letter of intent to attend Montana Tech in April. "All of us here are extremely excited for Josh", said Eggers. "He has been an invaluable part of our success for the past two years, and his personality, humor, and good nature will be missed just as much as his presence on the basketball court. We are looking forward to following his progress at the next level, and wish him nothing but the best."

On June 4, Steve Wiseley officially accepted a scholarship offer from Eastern Oregon University, an NAIA Division II member in LaGrande, Oregon. A two-year starter for BCC, Wiseley led Bellevue in assists both seasons and was twice named an All-Region performer. A team captain in 2007-08, he averaged 11 points and 4.6 assists per game, while leading the Bulldogs with 2.1 steals per night.

"We have asked a lot of Steve in his time here, and he has stepped up to that challenge. He is very deserving of his scholarship to Eastern Oregon. He loves to play, and I think he will excel at the NAIA level", said Eggers.

Finally, BCC's elder statesman Randy Bolick solidified his plans to attend Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. A walk-on in 2006, Bolick transformed himself from the team's twelfth man his freshman year, to the team's starting center in 2007-08.

"It gives me great pleasure to see Randy heading to Pacific" said coach Eggers of his alma mater. "He has been the picture of class and hard work during his time at BCC, and I can't think of anyone I would rather see become a Pacific University Boxer!"

Eggers went on to praise the class of 2008 for their dedication and commitment to continuing the tradition of excellence in Men's Basketball at Bellevue: "We have had sophomores continue on to play each year I have been here at BCC, but to have an entire class playing at the four-year level is something special. I can't thank these young men enough for their contributions to the program, and on behalf of their teammates and coaches, we wish them the best of luck!"

BCC basketball has a rich tradition in northwest college hoops. A perennial playoff contender, BCC finished the 2006-07 just short of the NWAACC title, falling 67-56 in the NWAACC Tournament Championship Game to Clackamas Community College. Bellevue compiled the second best record in the storied history of the Men's Basketball program at 28-4, and won their third consecutive Regional Championship. BCC competes in the North Region of the Northwest Athletics Association of Community Colleges along with Edmonds, Everett, Olympic, Peninsula, Seattle, Shoreline, Skagit, and Whatcom Community Colleges. The season begins in mid-October and finishes at the 16-team NWAACC Championships in early March.
