MEN’S SOCCER SWEEPS WEEKEND, TIES HIGHLINE
October 25, 2007
The BCC Men’s Soccer team has begun to hit their stride as the season draws to a close, completing a weekend sweep of Southwestern Oregon CC and Olympic College before playing fifth ranked Highline to a scoreless tie.
The Bulldogs dominated from start to finish on Friday, October 19 as they marched to a 4-0 victory over Southwestern Oregon. Freshman Vinni Oliveira (Sammamish HS) scored twice, and Darragh Simm (FR, Woodinville HS) and Gilberto “Junior” Robayo (FR, Snohomish HS) both added goals of their own. Sophomore keeper Claudio Lazar (Paris, France) combined with Alex Legault (FR, Kentwood HS) to hold the Lakers scoreless.
Next up for Bellevue was Olympic College on Saturday, October 20. Freshman Masaya Kato was sensational, recording his first career hat trick, while Oliveira picked up yet another goal along with two assists to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-0 win over the Rangers. Lazar was rock solid in goal again, leading Bellevue to their second consecutive goal.
On October 24 Bellevue traveled to Des Moines to take on rival Highline. On a soggy field, the Bulldog defense was as tough as ever, refusing to yield to the potent Thunderbird offense that scored three goals in their previous meeting this season. Ultimately the teams settled at a stalemate— a 0-0 tie.
With their previous two wins the Bulldogs clinched third place in the West Region and a playoff birth. Oliveira is having a phenomenal season for the Bulldogs, leading the team with 13 goals, fifth best in the entire NWAACC. Up next, BCC will host second place Peninsula College on October 31 before closing out regular season play with a trip to Tacoma Community College on November 3. |
