SOFTBALL AWARDS ROLL IN: THREE ALL-AMERICANS AND COACH OF THE YEAR
The awards rolled in for the BCC Softball team, following their sterling 42-6 season.
Topping the list, sophomores Erica Addison and Dawn Norcross, as well as freshman Korri Heideman were all named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NWAACC All-American team. The team was selected by NFCA-member NWAACC coaching representatives, based on nominations from the 2008 season.
Joining Addison, Norcross and Heideman on the All-Region First Team were
Freshmen infielder Smoot finished with a .434 batting average, 8 homeruns, and 37 RBI, while Whittemore batted .420 with 6 homeruns and 40 RBI. Sophomore first baseman Michelle Wilson had a .454 batting average and 24 RBI. Sophomore outfielder Dawn Norcross had a .417 batting average, 10 homeruns and 52 RBI. Freshmen pitcher/infielder Michelle Ruby was equally impressive on the mound as at the plate. She finished with a 17-1 record, 3 saves, 2.03 ERA, with 125 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched while also sporting a .427 batting average, 9 homeruns, and 37 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Miller-Long finished with an 18-2 record, 1 save, a 2.56 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched. She also had a solid .306 batting average.
Head Coach Leah Francis was also honored as the Northern Region’s Coach of the Year. In her four season at BCC, Francis has taken the her team to four consecutive NWAACC Tournaments, and has won the Northern Region Championship three of the last four years.
