BELLEVUE WOMEN WIN AT EVERETT
After cancellation and rescheduling of the games with Whatcom and Edmonds, the Bellevue women’s basketball team finally go the change to travel to Everett CC to take on the Trojans on Saturday, Jan. 21. Since this was the first time back on the court for the Bulldogs after nearly a week off due to inclement weather and travel conditions, the team was rested and ready to get back at it. The game started off well for the Bulldogs, getting out early against the Trojans. “I was really happy with our execution and effort,” said Coach Brent Hermanson, “I was a little nervous how we would perform coming off such a long lay-off.” In the first half, the Bulldogs dominated play out-scoring the Trojans 36-21 on 45.5% shooting. “I was most impressed with our defensive effort and intensity, something that has been missing as of late,” commented Hermanson.
In the second half, the Bulldog women continued their work from the first half, outscoring the Trojans 37-23 to take their third league contest with a 73-44 victory. “It’s great to be able to give everyone playing time, and to give all of our players who work hard every day in practice opportunities in games,” said Hermanson. Standouts for the Bulldogs were Kelsey Sparks with 20 points and Sanda Milovic with 10 rebounds. Monica Olivas was a nice surprise for the Bulldogs off the bench contributing eight points and three rebounds and bringing a defensive intensity to the game that’s been lacking at times recently.
The Bulldogs (11-4, 3-1) will be busy over the next ten days playing five games as snow cancellations are rescheduled. On Monday, Jan. 23, Bellevue hosts Whatcom (8-7, 3-2) with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off; on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Bulldogs travel to Shoreline (8-7, 2-4) for another 5:30 p.m. start; then will close the week at home, hosting the Peninsula Pirates (11-5, 5-1) at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Come on out and support your BC Bulldogs women’s basketball.
