BC Women’s Soccer Ends Season in First Round Playoffs Loss
On Wednesday, November 6, Bellevue women’s soccer traveled to Spokane to take on the East #2 seed (12-1-3 in league) in a loser-out game. The Bulldogs lost to the Sasquatch in NWAACC first round playoffs. Spokane controlled the early tempo of the match testing sophomore Ali Mackey before Spokane’s sophomore Tasha Luu scored in the 9th minute from an assist by Rainey Pelzel. Pelzel and Luu would connect again five minutes later to make it 2-0 in favor of the Sasquatch. It took BC almost the entire first half before threatening Spokane goalkeeper Emily Moscrip. “We began the match very flat and not mentally switched on,” said Bellevue College head coach Kiko Magana. “With our young team this year, it was very important we stay focused tactically for the full 90 minutes.”
After the half-time adjustments the Lady Bulldogs came out fighting in the second half. The match went back and forth with both sides having opportunities to score but Spokane found the back of the net once more in the 82nd minute and the match ended 3-0. “I was very proud of our girls today, many teams would give up after conceding an early goal but we found a way to come back and give us opportunities to score,” said Magana. The loss moves Spokane CC to the NWAACC quarter finals and ends the Bulldogs season. Magana now heads into the recruiting season with many top quality players from around the state already committed for the signing class of 2014.
