Student perspectives

  • My son was sick, I was alone and I had to take him to the doctor's office. My brother always helped me, but this time he was busy. I wrote some words on the paper and said, God help me. I hung up the phone and called the Clinic. Somebody said, doctor's office, may I help you. My heart beat very hard and I felt dizzy. I said, yes, I want to make an appointment for my son. I couldn't understand what she said. I asked her to say it again. She was very kind. She repeated it two or three times. After a few minutes she made an appointment. I was very happy.
  • The first time I went to the doctor's office, I was scared. The doctor asked, what seems to be the trouble. I said, I don't feel well and I have a headache. O.K. Sit down and let me take your temperature. Ten minutes later he told me, you have a fever, I think you have the flu, but don't worry it's nothing serious. He gave me some medicine and told me that I would be better soon. This time my daughter helped me.
  • The first time I went to the hospital I didn't speak English. It was very hard to understand what the doctor told me. So, my husband helped me. Now, I call and make doctor and dentist appointments and order medications from the pharmacy.
