More details about BC's new learning management system, Canvas.
Canvas is web-based software that allows teachers to build and maintain a secure web space to share course content, communicate with students, provide online learning activities and assessments, and keep track of their students’ progress. Canvas is licensed across the country by higher education institutions ranging in size, from small to large. It's also growing in popularity among K-12 institutions and corporate entities, and was recently named as the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges’ choice for replacing Angel course management software in the next few years.
Bellevue College use of Canvas
We're just at the very early stage of transitioning from our previously used course management system, Blackboard Vista over to Canvas. Use of Canvas for fall quarter 2012 will be limited to courses which were previously taught using Blackboard Vista. This group of first adopters includes all online courses, hybrid courses and online enhanced courses. By winter quarter 2013, the use of Canvas will expand to serve a wider group of users. Eventually, Canvas will y replace MyBC Course Sites and become the campus standard for online course class material distribution and course management. More details about specific dates on these changes will be communicated mid-fall quarter once our initial launch has passed.
