Introduction to Creative Writing: Approaching the Blank Page

E.L. Doctrow once said, “Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” Have you always wanted to write, but are unsure as to where to begin? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the blank page and the critical voices in your head? Not to worry. In this class we are going to write and learn the basic elements and techniques of creative writing as we go. We will explore the fundamentals of style, plot, and narrative form. We will learn how to develop characters and settings that will entrance your reader. Finally, we will examine different points of view, learn how to write dialogue, and pay attention to evocative imagery and the beauty of language. To aid us in our writing, we will also draw inspiration from the published works from various authors. Come join our community of writers and push past the blank page.
