One of the delights of foreign travel is meeting people who tell you about the customs and beliefs of their society, and about their own lives. In this course we will have that experience as Armchair Travelers to far-flung places. We will tour the world, reading short stories from diverse places including Ireland, France, Mexico, east and west Africa, and three countries of the north: Finland, Estonia, and Iceland.
Ellen Z. Berg is a sociologist (and traveler) who has frequently taught courses using American short stories as a window on our culture. She looks forward to this journey abroad.
