TELOS - Liar, Liar

New!

Deception is ubiquitous in nature because a certain amount of lying—to oneself and to others—confers survival benefits. There is lying in a bird’s mating ritual, a moth’s color camouflage, and a sociopath’s ruse. In this class, we ask whether we are cursed to live with deception, or if is it possible to see, understand, and rise above it. Topics include the biology and sociology of deception, body language, disordered personalities, transparency, and radical honesty.
