TELOS - Maritime History: Mysteries of Ocean Exploration and Trade


Survey of Maritime History (early-1400s to the late-2000s) focusing on the South and Central Pacific, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Northwest. The course will cover such varying subjects as ocean geography and environment; physical geography, maritime navigation; important treaties and political events, selected European explorers, the cultural impacts of colonialism, quest for the Northwest Passage, Russo-Japanese War (1909), World War I (League of Nations Mandate), and World War II. The course will close with a summary of current issues under the general theme of sustainability and conservation of the oceans resources. Connections, bringing the historical events together.
