Installed with Excel 2013 is a powerful business analysis toolset called the Power BI Suite. These tools let you analyze data, discover insights, and build detailed dashboards. In this class you will learn to create data models using the Power BI tools that mimic relational databases, allowing you to easily prototype data marts that could later be created in larger scale in SSAS. These models will be used to generate PowerPivot pivot tables, charts, graphs, and KPI’s to further analyze the data. Students will also learn how to import data from multiple data sources using Power Query for use in reporting. You will also learn to write basic formulas using Excel’s DAX Calculation Language to transform data. In addition, you will learn how to create reports and dashboards in Power View. Dashboard techniques throughout the class include pivot tables, pivot charts, slicers, conditional formatting, spark lines, and best practices for design and layout. Bring a USB flash drive (minimum 2 GB) to class.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Excel (at least Level 2) and data warehouse concepts and design is recommended.
