Class Supplies: Drawing Flowers with Virginia Paquette

You will need:

  • A real flower
  • 1 stick dark, compressed, very soft charcoal (Alphacolor Char-kole is recommended.)
  • Drawing pencil 4B
  • 2B pencil
  • Drawing paper, smooth, white, multipurpose pad of the size 18″ x 24″ (Strathmore 80lb. 400 series is recommended)
  • Caran D’Ache Neopastels* 12-color set, plus violet and purple or carmine
  • Black liquid (sumi) ink (Does not have to be expensive)
  • Inexpensive #10 or #12 round synthetic brush
  • Kneaded eraser
  • White plastic eraser
  • White tape
  • Drawing board


  • Cotton rags
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Ruler
  • Drop cloth (old sheet or plastic)


  • Palette knife (plastic is fine)
  • Blending stump
  • Color wheel, 12-color mixing guide (availabel online to download and print)

Bring this list to the art store, they can be very helpful and often offer a 10% discount at some stores if you are a BC student as well. Also, all basic materials are available at the BC North campus bookstore at (425) 564-5711.
